How to set a default device for Google Home streaming?

Google Home

If you have an Android phone, there’s a pretty good chance you’re using Google Home to control your entertainment. But what if you want to use Google Home to stream content from your phone?

Here’s how to set a default device for streaming content from your Android phone or tablet to your Google Home speaker.

This tutorial will show how to set a default device for Google Home streaming. The default device is the device that receives the audio stream. There are three ways to do it:

From Home

The easiest way to set a default device for Google Home streaming is from within your own Home:

  • Open Home and select ‘Settings‘.
  • Open ‘Devices‘. Scroll down to ‘Streaming: Devices‘.
  • You should see a default device in the drop-down menu.
  • Select it, and click on ‘Save‘.

Streaming through the microphone port

Open Home.

Select ‘Devices‘. Select ‘Streaming‘.

On the second screen you should see your other devices listed. You need to select one of them as the default device.

Once you have selected it you can click ‘Save‘ and it will set the default device.

In your streaming applications, if you specify the microphone port to be the device, the default device will automatically be set to that device. If you do not specify the device then it will default to ‘Default device‘.

From a mobile device

You can also do this from your mobile device. Go to your device’s home screen.

Select ‘Settings‘.

Tap ‘Developer options‘.

In ‘Streaming‘ tap the switch next to ‘Enable microphone to stream‘.

Once you have enabled it you will see an option in ‘Default device‘ to choose the device from which you want to stream to Home.

Once you select it you can tap ‘Save‘ and it will set the default device.

You can also check for updates at any time by selecting ‘Check for updates‘. This will automatically check for the latest Google Home app for Android and iOS.
