Using a computer every day can have more negative than positive effects on children. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Model Answer

Children may have more detrimental than beneficial consequences from daily computer use. I disagree with the given statement. Nowadays, most activities take place using computers, such as school project submissions; hence, using computers daily is unavoidable. However, some safety measures can be taken to prevent children from experiencing negative consequences.

First of all, modern computers are built using the latest technologies, which cause fewer strained eyes. Thus, it is completely safe to use computers every day. New updates and fixes are also released for operating systems and software. Children who do not use computers regularly may have difficulty coping with the latest updates. Regular use keeps them in touch and prepared for any changes. In this way, the daily use of computers has no negative consequences.

From a personal point of view, computers are an invaluable resource to help young people explore the world around them. For example, children who use the Internet to satisfy their curiosity about diverse topics are already becoming independent learners. No child with a computer is ever bored. By starting early in their lives, children feel totally at ease around computers; they can also take advantage of the wide range of services computers to provide.

However, some steps must be taken to ensure that children do not spend all the time on computers playing games and doing other unproductive activities. Parental control tools can be used for this purpose.

In conclusion, there is no doubt that the computer as a technological tool is here to stay. The sooner children become computer literate, the better for many aspects of their future lives. Implementing safety measures is a way to protect children from any negative impacts of computers.

To what extent do you agree or disagree – IELTS Essay Sample

A person’s worth nowadays seems to be judged according to social status and material possessions. Old-fashioned values, such as honour, kindness and trust, no longer seem important.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Solution

Currently, a person’s value appears to be determined by their social standing and their belongings. Old-fashioned virtues, such as honour, generosity, and trust, are no longer significant. I disagree with this statement. In this essay, I will discuss why wealth is not everything in social recognition.

Most celebrities today are admired or envied solely for their material wealth or position in various social hierarchies. Many of these people are known to turn their backs on friends, cheat on their spouses, or spend their evenings over-indulging in alcohol and/or drugs. Owning a mansion, driving an expensive car, and getting into A-list parties are above old-fashioned values. Ultimately, the many readers of gossip magazines and celebrity blogs reinforce these ideas.

In spite of this, I believe that the majority of people still believe in honour, kindness, and trust in their daily lives. Most of us want to establish happy relationships, raise our children to be decent citizens, defend the oppressed, and safeguard our communities in some way. People continue to create friendships and commercial connections using antiquated standards. When our trust is violated, or we are treated unjustly, we view this as a serious breach of our connection and evaluate the offender appropriately.

In conclusion, there is some validity to the idea that status and goods have replaced traditional values as a measure of an individual’s worth. When one looks beyond the tabloids, however, it is evident that the majority of regular people still possess a traditional conscience.
