Today most health insurance policies in the country claim that they are providing coverage for COVID-19 infection, but there are different criteria under which policyholders are denied a claim.
To help common people tackle the outbreak many health insurance companies have come up with customized COVID-19 insurance policies.
Here are a few of the exclusive health insurance options for treating Covid-19 infection in India:
ICICI Lombard
ICICI Lombard is a popular health insurance company in the country, but during this pandemic, the company has introduced the ‘COVID-19 Protection Cover’ plan. According to this plan, ICICI Lombard will pay the policyholder 100 percent of the sum insured in case he or she is declared COVID-19 positive.
In this policy, the sum insured will be paid as a lump sum after the diagnosis of the disease following a 14-day initial waiting period. This policy will cover people from the age group of 18 to 75 years. For a Rs 25,000 sum insured, the policyholder has to pay Rs 149.
Star Health and Allied Insurance
In the health insurance sector, Start Health is a reputed name with several insurance policies. Recently the firm has introduced the ‘Star Novel Coronavirus Insurance Policy’ that will cover individuals who have tested COVID-19 positive and need immediate hospitalisation. This policy will cover people from the age groups 18 to 65 years.
The policy comes in two different plans, Rs 21,000 and Rs 42,000. Premiums for these two insurance policies are set at Rs 459 and Rs 918 respectively.
Digit Health Insurance
The Digit Health Insurance policy will provide flat benefits for both COVID-19 quarantined and positive cases. According to the health insurance company, quarantined policyholders can avail of 50 per cent of the sum insured, whereas COVID-19-positive cases will receive 100 per cent of the sum insured. Importantly, the plan will also pay for all ongoing treatments of the holder.
The health insurance firm will provide coverage from Rs 25,000 to Rs 2,00,000. The base insurance policy premium is set at Rs 299.
HDFC ERGO
During this hard time, HDFC ERGO has also come forward to fight against the Covid-19 crisis. Coronavirus treatment is covered by the health insurance firm from hospitalization to basic treatment expenses. Admissibility criteria for the insurance policy will be defined by medical management protocol for quarantine, evaluation and treatment.
According to the firm, Quarantine is also covered if treatment is carried out in a registered medical facility. However, quarantine for isolation without treatment won’t be covered. Domiciliary treatment will also be not covered for COVID-19.
Bharti AXA General Insurance
Airtel Payment Bank and Bharti AXA General Insurance have partnered together to offer customized health insurance plans to cover COVID-19 treatment expenses. Already two different insurance plans have been announced: Group Hospital Cash and AXA Group Health Assure. Group Health Assure plan offers a lump sum benefit of Rs 25,000 and Group Hospital Cash will provide the benefit of Rs 500 per day. The policy can be purchased at a price of Rs 499.
