Effect of technology on income inequality – IELTS Essay

Some people think that the range of technology currently available is increasing the gap between rich people and poor people.

Others think that it is causing the opposite effect. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Technology and Income Inequality

One section of society believes that modern technologies have widened the gap between wealthy and poor individuals, while the other section thinks that technology has narrowed down this gap. In this essay, I will evaluate both views and give my opinion.

There is some evidence that the increased availability of technology contributes to the widening income divide. This is because high-quality technology is typically expensive, favouring the wealthy, while the poor cannot afford it or benefit from it. For instance, a wealthy individual can purchase a laptop computer, which will improve their educational outcomes. This would provide them with an advantage over poorer people, allowing them to earn higher incomes, resulting in increased income inequality.

On the other hand, technologies such as the Internet are entirely free to anyone who has access to one. Given that this is available in many remote and impoverished areas worldwide, access to educational resources has become more equitable. Previously, only those with sufficient funds could obtain resources such as books and tutors. Many educational resources are now available online, allowing even the poorest students to receive an education.

In conclusion, I believe that technology benefits the wealthy, who can easily afford it and use it to accomplish their own goals. The poorer sections of society cannot benefit from technological advancements unless they are affordable.

Sample 2

Some individuals feel that technical advancements have widened the gap between the affluent and the poor, while others disagree. There is, in my opinion, a substantial quantity of equipment that narrows the gap between the poor and the wealthy. On the contrary, some technological advances and devices are exclusive to the wealthy.

To begin with, automation is a pervasive issue that has spanned the globe for decades. It is necessary for the bulk of everyday and regular tasks, and all services should be linked to computers and the internet. In addition, technology tools and websites are required for accessing vast amounts of information in many industries, such as universities, healthcare services, and businesses. Due to this dependence, key components of automation should exist for all types of individuals in order to narrow the gap between them.

On the other hand, certain technical advancements and equipment are restricted to the wealthy due to budgetary constraints. For example, several therapies for chronic illnesses, such as cancer or the HIV virus, are fatal to humans. These tactics include expensive medications and emergency treatment that only the wealthy can afford. In addition, there are some products and devices, such as the most recent update from various Microsoft brands or automobile manufacturers, that impoverished people can only dream of. This is the primary reason for increasing the distance between the two groups of individuals.

To sum up, the use of technology has a variety of consequences on the community that can either decrease or grow the disparity between the wealthy and the poor. Finally, there is a fervent desire across all types of cultures that technology advancements will be accessible regardless of their financial concerns.
