Have you ever had the sense that it’s time to make a change? Around this time of year, we’re all occupied with the task of re-energizing ourselves by establishing powerful new habits. Considering you’re already in the mood, it would be a good idea to dust out your online persona, namely your Snapchat account. It’s just that you can’t.
Snapchat does not allow you to alter your username for “security concerns,” which is correct. We’re not convinced that this is a valid argument. It is possible to alter your name and vanity URL on Facebook as well. Snapchat has two possible answers. Let’s take a deeper look at what’s going on.
Method 1: Make a New Snapchat Account
Oddly, the first method Snapchat suggests is to simply delete your Snapchat account and create a fresh one. Given that Snapchat is struggling for users, recommending people to delete their account seems rash, to say the least.
To make a new account, navigate to accounts.snapchat.com, click on Create Account, and fill in the form. Make sure you enter your new preferred username. When you’re ready, click Sign Up and Accept.
Method 2: Change Your Display Name
In addition to your username, Snapchat also lets you choose a display name. You can change your display name as often as you like, and it will be visible to both your existing contacts and any new users you add. To change your display name, follow the steps below:
- Tap the Gear icon in the top right-hand corner of the app.
- Choose My Account.
- Tap on Name.
- Enter your new preferred display name.
- Hit Save.
Your new name will be instantly visible across the Snapchat network, and it will show up in search results when other people look for it.
